Iga Swiatek showed great respect for Jessica Pegula after the Doha final when she praised the consistency of the American and stated that “it’s great” what makes the 28-year-old a player. Swiatek, the top-ranked player in Doha, ousted second-ranked Pegula 6-3, 6-0 to successfully defend her Doha title.
Although Swiatek Pegula dominated in the Doha final, The Pole took a moment to acknowledge the American’s quality. “I’m pretty happy with my performance but I want to congratulate Jessica on singles, doubles and everything.
You’re a really consistent player, everything you represent is really great,” Swiatek said after the final, per Tennis Majors.
“I was able to stay focused from the beginning to the end of the games.

Swiatek makes amends for United Cup loss to Pegula
Swiatek started her 2023 season at the inaugural United Cup, where she won her first three games before Pegula handed her a 6-2-6-2 defeat.
After that loss to Pegula, Swiatek was seen crying on the Poland team bench. In her post-match press, Swiatek admitted she felt “helpless” in their United Cup game “Because I just knew that today I felt kind of helpless because I wasn’t physically and mentally able to even show up and solve problems.
So it’s always tough when you lose, especially when you’re playing for the team and your country. So I was just sad. But it’s not the first time I’ve cried after losing a game. Nothing special,” said Swiatek at the United Cup.
In the Doha final, Swiatek and Pegula played for the first time since the United Cup. Swiatek earned the first break in game two but Pegula broke back in game three. Swiatek broke Pegula again in game six, but the American broke back the Poles again in game seven to reduce the deficit to 4-3.
After blowing her second break of the match, Swiatek took her game to a whole new level as she won the next eight games to seal the win in impressive style.
