The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) arrested four vote-buyers in Sokoto and Katsina states during the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections held last Saturday. In Keffi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Alhaji Muhammad Baba-Shehu, the Chairman, commended the concerned officials for ensuring the absence of any security breach during the elections. He lauded the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for ensuring the process met Nigerians’ expectations. During a recent hangout event with older persons in Abuja, Ajoku reiterated the imperatives of exercise, stating that diabetes is not a death sentence and exercise can benefit both older and younger persons with diabetes.
Diabetes is a lifelong condition that results from the body’s inability to produce enough insulin to deal with sugar content. Ajoku advised elders to always check their diabetic status and to consult with a doctor to prescribe either tablets or insulin injection, depending on their condition. He also urged diabetic patients to be consistent in taking their medication and not to stop at any point, even if they feel relieved.
Ajoku encouraged older persons to embark on exercises to help their bodies use up sugar content. He encouraged older persons to walk around, interact with others, and avoid sitting at home. Interacting with others, even by phone, can also help older persons.
Ms May Ikokwu, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Save Our Heritage Initiative (SOHI), an NGO, also stressed the benefits of exercise in keeping a healthy body. She expressed the group’s commitment to preserving older persons through interactions and cultural revival.
To manage diabetes, it is essential to control sugar levels in the body. Exercise can help to use up sugar content, making it a beneficial therapeutic intervention for diabetic persons. Additionally, it is important to consult with a doctor and take medications consistently. Exercise can also improve general health and wellbeing, which is especially beneficial for older persons.
Fulfilling Electoral Promises Key to Winning Voter Trust – Lawmaker
Mr Olanrewaju Oshun, a Lawmaker representing Lagos Mainland in the Federal House of Representatives, has urged politicians to fulfill their electoral promises to gain the trust of the masses. In an interview with The Tide, Oshun emphasized the need for politicians to deliver on their mandate and be close to the people.
Oshun noted that Nigeria’s politics has changed, with the electorate expecting politicians to fulfill their promises before being voted for. He expressed optimism that the will of the people would prevail in the Governorship and State House of Assembly Elections, having voted for their choices.
The lawmaker praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for improving the conduct of the election compared to the Presidential and National Assembly Elections in February. INEC officials arrived early at most polling units, and the Bi-modal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) functioned effectively, while the overall process of the election was seamless.
Oshun commended the impressive voter turnout, stating that people cast their votes in a few minutes and left almost immediately. He was re-elected during the Feb. 25 National Assembly Election to represent his constituency.
ICPC Arrests Four Vote-Buyers during Governorship Elections
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) arrested four vote-buyers during the just-concluded Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections in Sokoto and Katsina states. In its election monitoring operations across the states of the federation, the ICPC encountered some vote-buyers at Kauran Miyo Primary School in Bodingo Town of Bodinga Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The ICPC monitoring team arrested three male vote-buyers; Mahe Bello, Musa Adamu, and Mustapha Mohammed, all of Kauran Miyo Bodinga. Mahe Bello was caught in possession of a cash sum of N38,000, two PVCs, one ATM card, and an Infinix phone. Musa Adamu had CFA228,000 in his possession, which was being offered to voters. The third suspect, Mustapha Mohammed, was arrested with some PVCs in his possession. The suspects were kept in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps before being conveyed to ICPC’s detention facility in Sokoto.
However, the ICPC monitoring team came under attack while carrying out the arrest of the three vote-buyers. An officer of the commission, Rabiu Ibrahim, suffered a head injury from being hit by stones, and has been admitted to a hospital. He is in a stable condition.
In a related development, the ICPC election monitoring team in Katsina State arrested one Tanimu Tabale for vote-buying at Tashar Yamma Polling Unit in Zango Local Government Area of the State. Tabale claimed he was an observer in Makama Polling Unit but was arrested at Tashar Yamma Polling Unit with the sum of N20,000 in different denominations attempting to buy votes.
The ICPC’s anti-corruption operations during the elections indicate the agency’s commitment to ensuring free, fair, and credible elections in Nigeria.
Chairman of Keffi LGA Commends Security Officials for Peaceful Elections
The Chairman of Keffi Local Government Area (LGA) in Nasarawa State, Alhaji Muhammad Baba-Shehu, has commended the security officials for ensuring a peaceful and secure environment during Saturday’s Governorship and House of Assembly elections in the area. Baba-Shehu noted that the absence of any security breach was due to the zeal and commitment of the security agencies in the area.
He also praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for ensuring that the electoral process met Nigerians’ expectations, adding that the electoral materials reached the polling units in good time, and the election process started early. Baba-Shehu expressed his satisfaction with the peaceful conduct of the elections in the area, stating that there was no complaint of delay of accreditation or voting in Keffi.
Baba-Shehu, who is the Chief Security Officer of the area, said that the security personnel were up and doing, and that the officers of the concerned security agencies worked hard to ensure that no one carried out any act that would destabilize the peace being enjoyed in the area. He commended the security agencies in Keffi LG for doing what was expected of them, adding that they were present in every corner of the community.
