Beckey L. Joseph, a longtime resident of Warren, Ohio, passed away at the age of 72 on March 17, 2023, surrounded by her family. She was an educator, having graduated from Youngstown State University with a bachelor’s degree in education in 1973 and a master’s degree in 1988. Beckey worked for YSU for 31 years and retired in 2004. She was an active member of Vienna United Methodist Church since 1956 and participated in various organizations such as Public Employee Retirees Inc. and Ohio Public Employees Retirees System. Beckey was also an avid crafter and a member of Sweet Adelines women’s barbershop competitive chorus for several years. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends. A service in her honor will be held on March 25, 2023, at Vienna United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions can be made to the Music Department of Vienna United Methodist Church. Obituary of Beckey L. Joseph, Educator and Community Leader
Beckey L. Joseph, a lifelong resident of Warren, passed away on March 17, 2023, at the age of 72, while at home with her family. She was born on May 24, 1950, to George H. and Alda R. Hilbig Gibson, and graduated from Mathews High School in 1968.
Beckey received her bachelor’s degree in education from Youngstown State University (YSU) in 1973 and went on to obtain a master’s degree in education in 1988 from the same institution. Her working career spanned 31 loyal years at YSU, where she began in the Human Performance and Exercise Science Department and culminated in the Events Management Department, from where she retired in 2004.
She was a faithful and dedicated member of Vienna United Methodist Church since 1956, and actively participated in several organizations, including Public Employee Retirees Inc., Ohio Public Employees Retirees System, YSU Retirees Association, and YSU Women Retirees.
Beckey had a passion for crafting and was a member of the Sweet Adelines women’s barbershop competitive chorus for several years. She also sang in the church choir, but spending time with her family and friends gave her the most joy.
She is survived by her husband, Gary J. Joseph, whom she married on July 11, 2009, her stepdaughter, Shannon L. (John) Gray, her stepgrandchildren, Samantha J. (Ben) Baldwin and John J. Gray, nieces and nephews, Chris (Wendy) Gibson, Doug (Crystal) Gibson, and Erica Gibson, great-nieces, and great-nephews, Isabelle, Chandler, Jonathan, Abby, and Maddy, as well as her close friends.
A time of gathering in Beckey’s honor will be held at Vienna United Methodist Church, 4265 Warren Sharon Road, Vienna, OH 44473, on March 24, 2023, from 5 to 7 p.m. and on March 25, 2023, from 11 a.m. to noon. Her celebration will continue with a service beginning at noon on March 25, 2023, also at the church. Memorial contributions can be made payable to the Music Department of Vienna United Methodist Church.
