Dos Pueblos High School made history when they won first place in the Student Television Network competition for the first time in 16 years of competing. DPNews, the school’s daily news program, was ranked among the top 20 programs in the country, and the school’s podcast, The Goodland Podcast, ranked as the second-best high school podcast in the United States. The team of 35 students competed in different categories, winning first place in the Sports Highlight Editing category, second place in the Tell The Story News Editing category, and two third places in the Vertical Nat Package and Crazy 8’s documentary categories. They also received an honorable mention for their Public Service Announcement. The team competed against 2,700 other students, making their victory even more remarkable. Dos Pueblos High School makes history at national Student Television Network competition
Dos Pueblos High School in Santa Barbara County made history when they participated in the Student Television Network competition on March 18-19 and won first place. This is the first time in 16 years of competing that Dos Pueblos High School has won the competition, beating out 2,700 other students.
DPNews, the school’s daily news program, was ranked among the top 20 programs in the country. Additionally, the school’s podcast, The Goodland Podcast, was ranked as the second-best high school podcast in the United States.
The team of 35 students competed in different competitions, winning first place in the Sports Highlight Editing category, second place in the Tell The Story News Editing category, and two third places in the Vertical Nat Package and Crazy 8’s documentary categories. They also received an honorable mention for their Public Service Announcement.
The Sports Highlight Editing category required students to create a video with commentary and graphics based on given game footage and stats. Jude Kadi and Seth Tedeschi won first place in this category. The Tell The Story News Editing category required students to create a news package based on raw footage and data. Aidan Myers won second place in this category.
The Vertical Nat Package category required students to create a news package with the theme “Take it outside,” while the Crazy 8’s documentary category required them to create a documentary on the theme “Actions speak louder” within 8 hours. Jules Steelsmith, Sophia Merritt, Sophia Pixley won third place in the Vertical Nat Package category, and the team won third place in the Crazy 8’s documentary category.
Finally, the Public Service Announcement category required students to create a PSA with the theme “Disconnect to Reconnect.” Alex Gardiner and Seth Phillips received an honorable mention for their entry.
