Clive Myrie appears to have tried to dispel rumors that he was the victim of a racist attack while reporting in Ukraine.

The BBC News reporter has spoken out after a report circulated on social media platform Tiktok that he was beaten by a gang of Ukrainians while reporting from the war zone and that the attack was covered up.

Myrie, 58, tweeted: “How fascinating to see a lie fly! Don’t you just love bots!”

On the anniversary of the outbreak of war he will return to Kyiv and a year later he will address the people he met.

In June last year, Myrie was reportedly involved in an accident involving an armored vehicle in Ukraine and his vehicle is said to have overturned.

The reporter – who has not spoken out about the crash – is said to have injured his head and has returned to London with no apparent injuries to present BBC News and BBC Proms coverage.

On February 24, the day Russia invaded Ukraine, Myrie reported live for BBC News from Kyiv at 10am and viewers saw a tear roll down his cheek.

Myrie afterwards opined that after covering previous Russian conflicts, he could have foreseen that “it was going to be a horrible, horrible war.”

He continued: “It was an emotional day and I was standing on the roof of the hotel where we were broadcasting and honestly it was windy, it was windy.
