Buy a cookie, help a sick kid at Maple Ridge Bakery all March 1

A BC organization decides to treat deadly diseases with milk and cookies – sort of.

The fifth annual Milk and Cookies for Canuck Place campaign is underway to help fund Canuck Place Children’s Hospice in its mission to provide palliative care to more than 830 children in BC and the Yukon with life-threatening illnesses.

As part of this fundraiser, local bakeries and schools help sell homemade cookies and other baked goods, with proceeds benefitting the nonprofit organization.

Anna Stuber, communications and campaigns specialist at Canuck Place, explained that February 23rd is Cookie Day at Canuck Place, with schools from across BC and the Yukon hosting bake sales. However, the entire Milk and Cookies for Canuck Place campaign is so much more than that.

“People can get involved by purchasing treats from the Canuck Place Cookie Club, donating to the Canuck Place Cookie Jar, or fundraising, including hosting their own bake sale,” Stuber said.

“This popular fundraiser is running now through the end of March. We encourage people to raise funds to support Canuck Place to help children and families create memories and ensure the cookie jar is always full.”

One of the Canuck Place Cookie Club members this year is the Hansel and Gretel Bakery in Maple Ridge, which co-owner Craig Storer says is the third year they’ve been involved with the fundraiser.

“Last year was a huge success,” he said. “I think we raised a few thousand dollars for the kids, which is great.”

The Hansel and Gretel Bakery will take part in the fundraiser this year by selling a variation of their popular Happy Face biscuits throughout March.

The full list of Canuck Place Cookie Jar members includes:
