Buster Murdaugh Addresses False Rumors in Statement Regarding Stephen Smith’s Death

Buster Murdaugh Denies Involvement 3

Buster Murdaugh, the son of Alex Murdaugh, released a statement on Monday morning addressing false rumors regarding his involvement in the death of Stephen Smith. Murdaugh called the rumors “baseless” and denied any connection to the case.

Smith was found dead with a head injury on Sandy Run Road in Hampton County in July 2015. Investigators initially believed Smith had been hit by a vehicle while standing outside his own vehicle that had run out of gas.

Amid the trial for his father, Alex Murdaugh, who was convicted for the murders of his wife and youngest son, questions about Smith’s death were reignited. Smith’s mother, Sandy, has recently launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for an independent autopsy of her son’s body, hoping to find answers to her son’s death.

In his statement, Buster Murdaugh expressed his grief over the loss of his mother and brother and his frustration over the rumors regarding his involvement in the Smith case. He emphasized that the accusations were completely untrue and called for the media to stop publishing “defamatory comments and rumors” about him.

Throughout the trial, Murdaugh has been targeted and harassed by the media and followers of the story. He noted that he had not previously spoken out about the rumors so that he could grieve in private. Murdaugh concluded his statement by expressing his sympathy for the Smith family and denying any involvement in Stephen’s death.
