United Airlines invests in Svante for carbon capture

United Airlines has invested $5 million in Svante, a carbon capture company that utilizes absorbent beds or filters to capture up to 95% of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Svante specializes in second-generation solid sorbent-based carbon capture and removal, which has the potential to convert the captured carbon dioxide into sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) or other products. United Airlines’ investment in Svante is part of the company’s drive to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and achieve its goal of being 100% green by 2050.

Additionally, United Airlines has invested in the future production of over three billion gallons of sustainable aviation fuel, which is produced from cooking oil and agricultural waste and reduces greenhouse gas emissions associated with air travel compared to conventional jet fuel. The airline’s Sustainable Flight Fund aligns with United Airlines’ principles of investing in sustainable aviation fuel for the future and exploring various ways to produce it.

United Airlines has announced a $5 million investment in carbon capture company Svante, as part of the airline’s drive to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Svante specializes in second-generation solid sorbent-based carbon capture and removal, utilizing structured absorbent beds or filters to capture up to 95% of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

Svante’s technology has the potential to convert the captured carbon dioxide into sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) or other products. The company works with other organizations, such as Dimensional Energy, which specializes in carbon utilization and has been previously invested in by United Airlines. Together, Svante and Dimensional Energy are designing integrated systems for captured carbon dioxide to SAF.

Svante’s manufacturing facility, located in Vancouver, BC, Canada, is expected to produce enough filters to capture millions of tons of carbon dioxide in the air annually. United Airlines’ investment will support Svante’s commercial-scale filter manufacturing facility. The investment is part of Svante’s Series E financing round.

Claude Letourneau, Svante’s President and Chief Executive Officer, expressed his appreciation for United Airlines’ investment, stating that it would aid in accelerating the commercialization of carbon capture and removal technology. Letourneau also emphasized the airline industry’s significant opportunity to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through the transition to sustainable aviation fuels and other innovative technologies that can help achieve a net-zero carbon economy.

United Airlines’ investment in Svante is a significant step in the company’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint. By investing in advanced carbon capture technology, United Airlines is working to reduce its impact on the environment and promote sustainable aviation.

United Airlines Invests in Sustainable Aviation Fuel for 100% Green Goal

United Airlines has invested in the future production of over three billion gallons of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). SAF is produced from cooking oil and agricultural waste and reduces greenhouse gas emissions associated with air travel compared to conventional jet fuel.

This investment aligns with United Airlines’ goal to be 100% green by 2050. The airline aims to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 100% at this time, without relying on typical carbon offsets.

United Airlines’ investment in sustainable aviation fuel comes after the airline announced its Sustainable Flight Fund. This fund aligns with United Airlines’ principles of investing in sustainable aviation fuel for the future and exploring various ways to produce it.
