The University of Arizona’s Center for Innovation has been at the forefront of fostering an innovative environment in Southern Arizona for over two decades. Recently, the center has welcomed four Ukrainian technology startups that are expanding into the US markets.
Tech Parks Arizona, founded by the University in 2003, built an incubator to assist startups. The incubator leverages Tech Parks’ network and facilities to provide resources, connections, and an environment necessary for entrepreneurs to make their way in the market. Executive Director of UACI, Eric Smith, referred to the incubator as “economic development through startup growth.”
In November 2022, the US Department of State’s Global Innovation Through Science and Technology initiative selected four Ukrainian startups for a 27-point roadmap program at the University of Arizona Tech Park. EQ Production, Noty.ai, SorbiForce, and Zeely are the four companies chosen to advance their development in key areas such as customer discovery, entity formation, and competitive analysis.
EQ Production’s emotional intelligence app aids users in maximizing their sustainable emotional skills. Noty.ai is an AI-powered assistant for transcribing Zoom and Google Meet calls. SorbiForce created a sustainable and cost-effective carbon battery, and Zeely is a web store and ad builder aimed at assisting small businesses sell online.
UACI assists these companies in adapting to the US market by providing support through programming, places, and people to execute on that programming. For international companies, the UACI runs them through a process that helps them converse with potential customers, ensuring that when they launch the product, it is fit for the market.
These initiatives ensure that when the innovations are placed back in Ukraine, they can help stimulate the economy there. The University of Arizona’s Center for Innovation is thus evolving the economy on a local and global scale.
