Eight of Canada’s 13 provinces and territories celebrate a regional holiday today.

Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, Saskatchewan and New Brunswick celebrate Family Day while Manitoba celebrates Louis Riel Day.

Nova Scotia Residents are off due to Heritage Day, while those living on Prince Edward Island celebrate Islander Day.

The holidays mean that most provincial government offices and services are closed, as well as most schools in regions that mark a public holiday.

Most banks will also close in affected provinces, although the majority of state-regulated services will maintain normal hours of operation.

That includes Canada Post, which says mail collection and delivery will largely operate as usual, although locations that are running out of private rooms may be closed depending on the host company’s service hours.
