A man is dead after a shooting on Sunday morning in Milton.
Police said they were called just before 5 a.m. today to reports of gunfire at an apartment building on Gibson Crescent, located near Ontario Street South and Louis St. Laurent Avenue.
“From our understanding, we suspect that two male suspects visited this apartment,” Const. Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) Ryan Anderson told reporters at the scene late Sunday morning.
“Shots were fired in the house. Our officers attended and located one of the suspects who had passed away. We have since taken into custody a second suspect and a resident of the home, both men.”
Anderson, who could not confirm if there was a break-in and if there were signs of forced entry into the home, said the victim was an adult male.
“There is currently no word on charges being filed and it is not clear if a weapon has been found, but updates will be forthcoming,” Anderson said. Before the media crum, police told CP24 that there was an “exchange of gunfire” at the house.
A number of neighbors told CP24 that about a week ago there had been some police activity in the neighborhood, including SWAT teams. However, the police did not want to comment on the details.
Local residents said a teacher lives with her adult son in the house where the shooting took place. There is also at least one tenant, they said.
Bullet holes can be seen in a bedroom window at the back of the house. In a press release, HRPS said this shooting was “isolated from the residence and appears to be targeted.”
They also advised residents to expect a “continued police presence” in the area as the investigation is ongoing.
At the moment, he said police are “talking to neighbors and gathering as much information as they can.”
