The Louis D. Brandeis Legacy Fund for Social Justice is offering GSAS students $3,000 to $6,000 stipends for interning with an organization that pursues social justice goals, and Connected PhD Student Grants are available for GSAS PhD students in Anthropology, English, History, Musicology, Music Composition and Theory, Near Eastern and Judaic Studies (NEJS), Politics, and Sociology. These grants provide funding for creating experiences that develop professional competencies, obtain new credentials, and fund internships, and students can take advantage of grant funding in a variety of ways, including learning and applying new skills, obtaining internships, applying research or teaching skills in collaborations with community organizations, and designing and supporting digital humanities projects with faculty members.
Summer 2023 Funding and Professional Development
The Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS) is currently expanding funded summer opportunities for its students. Students in the Divisions of Creative Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences who apply for and receive summer funding from the university can receive a maximum of $6,000 per summer, while GSAS students in the Division of Science will be consulted with the appropriate DivSci Grad Affairs contacts about summer funding sources if they receive funding from one of the sources listed below.

Teaching Institute in Reading-Writing Pedagogy, June 26-30
Deadline: March 31, 2023
Eligibility: All GSAS PhD students
Are you a GSAS student interested in teaching at a community college? If so, join the Teaching Institute in Reading-Writing Pedagogy at Brandeis from June 26-30, 2023. This summer program will provide advanced, hands-on pedagogy training for writing and reading-heavy courses, and it will give you a rare opportunity to network and collaborate with faculty from Middlesex Community College. Attending this institute will help you get faculty jobs in R1s and SLACs.
The institute will be an in-person event held at Brandeis University, and breakfast, lunch, and coffee will be provided daily, along with a $1,000 stipend for participating. The program will run from 9:30 am to 5 pm and will consist of eight Brandeis students and eight Middlesex Community College faculty.

GSAS/Mandel Dissertation Summer Writing Awards
Deadline: April 18, 2023
If you are a doctoral candidate in the humanities or humanistic social sciences, you are eligible to apply for the GSAS/Mandel Dissertation Summer Writing Award. This award provides a $6,000 stipend to support the cost of living and research-related expenses, allowing you to focus solely on your dissertation research and writing during the summer.

Summer 2023 Funding and Professional Development
The Mandel Center for the Humanities and GSAS are offering a 10-week writing accountability group for Brandeis doctoral students in the humanities, humanistic social sciences, and arts who are currently writing their dissertations. Eligible participants are ABD (prospectus/proposal approved) GSAS PhD students who will receive a $2,000 lump sum stipend (no reimbursement submissions necessary) to help carve out time and space for their writing. To be awarded the grant, you must commit to a virtual summer cohort writing accountability group and attend events offered by the Brandeis Writing Center, including a dissertation writing retreat (May 23-25). Get a Certificate in Learning Experience Design!
Deadline: May 1, 2023
Eligibility: All GSAS PhD students
Brandeis Rabb School of Continuing Studies offers free 5-week courses for GSAS PhD students interested in teaching or learning design jobs. The courses, which have practical applications in high schools, higher education, and industry, include Learning Design Thinking (required to take the other courses), Universal Design for Learning, Assessment Strategies, and Adult Learning Theories. The courses are online, instructor-led, and have no set meeting times. Sessions are from June 5 to July 7 and from July 10 to August 11, 2023. Eligible GSAS PhD students can apply for funding for non-profit/social justice work related to education, direct-service, research, tech support, marketing, or financial analytics. The Louis D. Brandeis Legacy Fund for Social Justice is offering GSAS students $3,000 to $6,000 stipends for interning with an organization that pursues social justice goals. The award amount will be calibrated to the length of the experience and expected hours of work, with both shorter (3-6 weeks) and longer (6+ weeks) internships eligible for the award. The stipends will be disbursed in summer 2023. The Legacy Fund supports a wide range of activities that reflect the University’s commitment to social justice.

GSAS PhD students in Anthropology, English, History, Musicology, Music Composition and Theory, Near Eastern and Judaic Studies (NEJS), Politics, and Sociology are eligible for Connected PhD Student Grants. The grants provide funding for creating experiences that develop professional competencies, obtain new credentials, and fund internships. Students can take advantage of grant funding in a variety of ways, including learning and applying new skills such as mapping technology, coding, design, business management, and audio production, obtaining internships, applying research or teaching skills in collaborations with community organizations, and designing and supporting digital humanities projects with faculty members.
