“4,800-Year-Old Human Remains Found Near Livestock Burials in Germany, Researchers Reveal”
In advance of a massive construction project in Halberstadt, Germany, experts are conducting an extensive excavation of the area. And if their early finds are any indication, they could glean valuable insight into ancient human life.

In the tomb, archaeologists found human remains, a clay vessel known as a spherical amphora, and a stone ax, Dietrich said. About 10 feet from the grave, experts discovered a second burial site that contained the remains of at least four cattle.
The remains were buried in the Neolithic Globular Amphora culture, an archaeological period in Central Europe spanning from 3100 BC to 3100 BC. to 2650 BC Lasted
Archaeologists hope that further excavations will provide a deeper insight into ancient human life in Germany.
This find is particularly important because it resembles another discovery from the same period known as the “Cattle Baron” from Westerhausen, a village less than 10 miles from Halberstadt, Dietrich said.
The “cattle baron,” a roughly 40-year-old individual buried alongside seven cattle, told experts that according to the state museum, the region had begun to develop hierarchies, ruling classes and social structures in the middle of the Neolithic period of prehistory in Halle. Funeral practices were an important part of these structures, as the different classes went through different burial processes.
According to Dietrich, experts hope to learn more about these societies if the excavations in Halberstadt continue until the end of March.
Halberstadt is about 210 km southwest of Berlin.
