“Canadian Soccer Fans Prepare for the Start of the Championship Season as Hamilton and Montreal Launch the Competition on April 19”
The 2023 Canadian Championship begins April 18 in Hamilton and Montreal, with Forge FC hosting FC Laval and CF Montreal hosting Vaughan SC in first-round matches.
While the tournament draw was held on January 31, on Tuesday Canada Soccer announced the dates and venues for the first round of the 14-team knockout competition.
The preliminary round continues on April 19 with three more games.
Halifax Wanderers FC and Atletico Ottawa meet in the first half of a doubles game in a neutral game at York Lions Stadium in Toronto, with York United FC then hosting expansion club Vancouver FC in their first official game.
TSS Rovers FC of Richmond host Valor FC of Winnipeg at Swangard Stadium on the same night, marking the first Canadian Championship game to be played at Burnaby, BC stadium since 2010.
The first round ends on April 20th with Calgary’s Cavalry FC and Pacific FC clashing at Starlight Stadium in Langford, BC
The six first-round winners advance to the quarterfinals on May 9-11, where they will join the 2022 champions Vancouver Whitecaps and runners-up Toronto FC, who received byes in the first round.
The Canadian Championship winner wins the Voyageurs Cup and earns a place in the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League, the elite club competition in North and Central America and the Caribbean.
