NHL Roundup: Avs come from behind to bring down Oilers in OT 1

Mikko Rantanen scored with 21 seconds left in overtime to pull the Colorado Avalanche 6-5 past the Edmonton Oilers in Denver on Sunday.

Colorado came back from a 5-3 deficit in the third period, winning its third straight win and giving Edmonton its fourth straight loss. The Avalanche won a faceoff in the Oilers’ zone and brought the puck to Rantanen, who skated alone and scored the winning goal. It was his 36th this season.

JT Compher had one goal and three assists, and Nathan MacKinnon had a goal and two assists for Colorado. Valeri Nichushkin, Logan O’Connor and Artturi Lehkonen also scored, Samuel Girard had two assists and Alexandar Georgiev had 35 saves.

Warren Foegele scored twice while Mattias Janmark provided a goal and an assist for Edmonton. Leon Draisaitl and Tyson Barrie each had a goal, Cody Ceci had two assists and Jack Campbell made 37 saves.

Blackhawks 5, Maple Leafs 3

Patrick Kane scored his ninth regular-season hat trick of his career, and Cole Guttman’s first career goal was the decisive win as host Chicago beat Toronto.

Goaltender Jaxson Stauber stopped 32 of 35 shots to help the Blackhawks win their second straight. Max Domi provided one goal and three assists. Kane added an assist for a four-point night. John Tavares, Noel Acciari and Mitchell Marner scored for the Maple Leafs while Morgan Rielly had two assists.

Acciari made Toronto 3-2 in just over two minutes of the second period. Marner leveled the game before Guttman responded to give the Blackhawks a definitive lead at 11:42 of the third period.

Senators 7, Blues 2

Tim Stutzle scored two goals and earned an assist as Ottawa routed while visiting St. Louis.

Brady Tkachuk and Alex DeBrincat had a goal and two assists apiece for the Streaking Senators, who were 7-1-1 in their last nine games. Shane Pinto and Drake Batherson each added a goal and an assist for Ottawa. Ridly Greig scored his first NHL goal, Claude Giroux had two assists and Mads Sogaard made 30 saves.

Colton Parayko and Tyler Pitlick scored for the Blues and goaltender Thomas Greiss made 27 saves in his first start since Jan. 26. The Blues have lost two games by an aggregate score of 11-3 since transferring captain Ryan O’Reilly and forward Noel Acciari to Toronto on Friday night. Adding to their pain on Sunday was the loss of winger Jake Neighbors, who sustained an upper-body injury on his first shift.

Wild 4, predators 3

Ryan Hartman scored with 21 seconds remaining, and Minnesota defeated Nashville after giving up a two-goal lead in the third period.

Hartman tapped Jonas Brodin’s shot past Juuse Saros for the game-winner just 26 seconds after Nashville leveled. Kirill Kaprizov scored twice for Minnesota, who improved to 3-2-1 in seven home games. Filip Gustavsson made 23 saves. Kaprizov has four goals in his last four games and 33 this season.

Tommy Novak scored his third goal in two games and had two assists for the Predators, who have lost three of four. Roman Josi had one goal and one assist and Saros made 31 saves.

Devils 4, Jets 2

Fabian Zetterlund and Miles Wood overcame long droughts by equalizing and opening the game by a 1:51 margin early in the third period for New Jersey, who defeated Winnipeg in Newark, NJ

Dawson Mercer scored the first goal for the hosts before netting an empty net with 55.1 seconds remaining as the Devils won for the second time in 24 hours. New Jersey defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-2 on Saturday. Goalie Mackenzie Blackwood made 23 saves on Sunday.

Cole Perfetti and Neal Pionk scored for the Jets, who lost the first two games of their four-game road trip to the Eastern Conference. Goalie Connor Hellebuyck recorded 25 saves.
