SYDNEY — A national pageant winner who will be competing internationally later this year has a strong connection to Cape Breton.
Patricia Seward was crowned Miss Intercontinental Canada in November, just six months after being named Miss British Columbia World.
It’s a long way from Cape Breton, but Seward’s fondness for the island runs deep, having spent much of her childhood summers here.
“Both my parents and my whole family are from Nova Scotia and Cape Breton Island,” explained Seward, a Vancouver native.
“My parents moved here and it was really just them, so I would go there every summer Nova Scotia and I would go to Cape Breton to see our family.
“It was pretty much a home away from home for me.”

“What I really do is collaborate with the community and share information,” she said. “I held a webinar in November where we had about 40 different clients where I was able to teach them how to create a sustainable capsule wardrobe for themselves.”
“If you feel good and look good, you can really show that to the world and be successful.”
