The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum has appointed Noam Segal as the LG Electronics Associate Curator, effective March 27, focusing on technology-based art research. Segal is an interdisciplinary curator, international scholar, and educator with a proven track record in curatorial vision for the future of the art field. She will develop and support the Guggenheim’s engagement with technology-based art, and produce scholarship and public-facing content to strengthen the goals of the LG Guggenheim Art and Technology Initiative.
The LG Guggenheim Art and Technology Initiative is a five-year collaboration between the Guggenheim and LG aimed at promoting and researching artists working at the intersection of art and technology. The initiative is an unprecedented investment in technology as an artistic medium and will broaden the Guggenheim’s investigations into this innovative field. LG is a global leader in consumer electronics, chemicals, and automotive components, and is responsible for producing South Korea’s first television and radio sets.

The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum has named Noam Segal as the LG Electronics Associate Curator, effective March 27. With a focus on research, Segal will assist the Guggenheim’s involvement with technology-based art and produce content that promotes the goals of the initiative across various departments. Segal’s technological expertise and extensive experience in digital art, advanced screen technologies, robotics, algorithms, AI, quantum computing, and other emerging tech will make essential contributions to the Guggenheim’s explorations in this field.
Segal, who is an interdisciplinary curator and international scholar, will work closely with the Exhibition, Collection, Conservation, Communications, and Education departments at the Guggenheim to promote a deeper understanding of the ways contemporary artists use current technologies. “It is a huge honor to be joining the Guggenheim, an institution that advances art and technology through research and investigation, rigor and responsibility, and a clear commitment to artists and sustainable futures,” said Segal. “I look forward to beginning working with my colleagues to develop new exciting programs and continue to shape the future of digital art at the museum.”

Noam Segal, an interdisciplinary curator and international scholar, has a rich background in curatorial practice and the intersection of digital, political, and social representations in contemporary art. She is currently faculty and director of research in the MA program for curatorial practice at the School of Visual Arts, New York. In that capacity, she organized the Algorithmic State, an online series of critical discussions that considers the evolution and implications of digital art and new technologies in current sociocultural, political, and ecological settings. The series featured artists and technological scholars such as James Bridle, Agnieszka Kurant, Lev Manovich, Hito Steyerl, Jenna Sutela, and others.
Segal has curated exhibitions and presented public lectures and programs at several museums and arts organizations across the United States, Europe, and the Middle East. In 2022, she served on the curatorial team, led by artist Kader Attia, of Still Present!, the twelfth Berlin Biennial for Contemporary Art. In that role, she also served as a lead curator of the Digital Divide, a symposium on computational governance, surveillance capitalism, and digital futures. She organized Maria Hassabi: Cancelled (2022), a performance utilizing media to explore the complexities of womanhood, for the FRONT International: Cleveland Triennial of Contemporary Art. In 2020, Segal organized and curated the AURORA Biennial Afterwards was already before in Dallas, TX, which brought together in-person and digital events of diverse scales. Furthermore, she has curated and cocurated internationally renowned shows such as Neïl Beloufa: The Enemy of My Enemy, Palais de Tokyo, Paris, 2018; Pope.L: One Thing after Another, La Panacée, Montpellier, 2018; and Anri Sala: No Names, No Title, Tel Aviv Museum of Art, 2015.
Segal has extensive academic, consulting, and writing experience. She previously served as a visiting scholar in the Department of Performance Studies, Tisch School of the Arts, New York University, from 2019 to 2021. In 2020-2021, she was Visiting Faculty in the MFA Program Department of Painting and Printmaking at Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond. Segal’s scholarly contributions to books, academic journals, art magazines, and catalogues include writings on artists Basel Abbas and Ruanne Abou-Rahme, Adelita Husni-Bey, Pauline Boudry and Renate Lorenz, Bracha L. Ettinger, Wu Tsang, and others.
Segal holds a PhD and MA in hermeneutics and cultural studies, with a dissertation on social positions and community models in installation art, from Bar-Ilan University, Tel Aviv, and a BA in philosophy and art history from Tel Aviv University.
