Larry Dean, a Canadian Football League (CFL) free agent linebacker, has re-signed with Saskatchewan Roughriders. Dean, who was selected as the CFL’s Most Outstanding Defensive Player in 2019, has agreed to a two-year deal with the team. Dean had initially signed with the Roughriders in 2017, and has since become one of their most important defensive players, recording 42 defensive tackles, four sacks, and two interceptions in 2019. Dean’s return is expected to give the Roughriders a major boost on defense, as they look to make a deep run in the playoffs in 2020.

Dean started in 18 regular season games in 2022 and recorded 101 defensive tackles, seven special teams tackles, three sacks, two interceptions and two forced fumbles.
He originally signed with the Riders as a free agent in 2021, but missed that entire season after tearing his Achilles tendon during a practice session ahead of training camp at Mosaic Stadium.
Dean’s signing means the Riders have two of their starting three linebackers signed from 2022. Derrick Moncrief, the strong linebacker, is signed until 2023. Moncrief and cornerback Nick Marshall led the Riders in 2022 with four interceptions each.

Middle linebacker Darnell Sankey, a pending free agent, remains unsigned. He led the CFL with 120 defensive tackles last season.
According to 3DownNation.com, the Riders have signed American offensive tackle Eric Lofton. He spent the 2022 season with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, dressing for a game after Winnipeg finished first in the West Division. Otherwise, he was on the Bombers’ 2022 training list.
Lofton originally signed with the Ottawa Redblacks in 2017. He capped two seasons for four regular-season games with the Redblacks and also had stints with the BC Lions and Edmonton Elks.
