LeBron James went with rookie Anthony Edwards with the first pick in the NBA All-Star Draft, convincing Lakers fans he’s recruiting.
Before the NBA All-Star Game on Sunday night, LeBron James and Giannis Antetokounmpo had to compose their teams with a draft.
It all started with the reserves first and LeBron got the first pick. He picked Anthony Edwards of the Timberwolves.
Lakers fans immediately read this choice.
Lakers fans think LeBron chooses Anthony Edwards
The admiration for Edwards is well founded. He’s averaging 24.9 points, 5.9 rebounds and 4.5 assists this year, all career highs.
And he plays in Minnesota… which is why Lakers fans are so eager to dream of him following the trend of small-market stars stepping into the big market at the earliest opportunity.
He’ll be a restricted free agent in 2024 if he doesn’t first get a new deal with the Timberwolves.
If Lakers fans are successful, he’ll push for a trade or choose LA in free agency.
James then picked Jaylen Brown, Paul Georgia, Tyrese Haliburton, Julius Randle, De’Aaron Fox and Jaren Jackson Jr. to fill his reserves.
When choosing starters, James selected Joel Embiid, Kyrie Irving, Kuka Doncic and Nikola Jokic for his starting five.
Antetokounmpo picked up Lauri Markkannen, Donovan Mitchell, Ja Morant and Jayson Tatum with reserves including Damian Lillard, Jrue Holiday, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Demar DeRozan, Pascal Siakam, Bam Adebayo and Domantas Sabonis.
