“Heartbreak for Powell River U18 Kings as Game Slips Away in Split Second”

The Powell River U18 Kings suffered a heartbreaking loss in their first playoff game on Sunday, February 5th.

In a see-saw game with multiple lead changes, the Oceanside Generals fought back from a two-goal deficit in the third period to level the game 4-4. The visiting club then added the winner with just 2.6 seconds left on the clock, right after a shot ricocheted off the post.

Powell River started strong when Dreydan Harris capitalized on a breakaway chance after 28 seconds of play to score the first.

With teams playing four-on-four, Oceanside responded with 42 seconds remaining in the first period and then went 2-1 up thanks to a power-play goal in the middle of midfield.

Kings forward Evan Piniewski hit a rebound 21 seconds later to end the game with two goals apiece. His teammate Chase Fontaine hit another rebound in the second half to give the home team their second lead of the day.

Braedyn Louie capitalized on a missed shot by the Oceanside keeper and fired in a shot into back netting to put them 4-2 up, but the visitors had 15:25 to make a comeback and didn’t waste much time.

33 seconds later, the generals reduced the lead and then made it 4:4 with 11:46 on the game clock.

Oceanside Outshot Powell River 40-29.
