Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al Thani of Qatar, the son of the former prime minister, has made a bid for full ownership of the club and promised vast investments in various club investments.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe, chairman and chief executive of INEOS, also made a majority stake offer and promised to “put Manchester back into Manchester United”.

US hedge fund Elliott Investment Management has also reportedly expressed interest, but has ruled out a full takeover and may offer financing for any deal.

The Sheikh’s offer is thought to be around £4billion, with Ratcliffe’s offer being slightly lower than that, although he could match the Qatari valuation by making 25% of the club available to fans .

The Sun says the Glazers will only consider offers that match their £6billion valuation of the club.

A source close to the situation suggested that the Glazers want to maximize their profits and will not budge on their asking price.

“It’s still unclear whether the Glazers actually want to sell and – if they do – it will only be for top dollar,” the source said.

“It is possible that they are more inclined towards a partial sale rather than a full sale at this stage – as this could value the club higher.

“What is obvious is that they want to maximize their profits by selling at their preferred price or not at all.

“The other possibility that no one is ruling out is that they will simply decide that none of the offers are close to what they want and cancel it, in the hope that market conditions change in their favor in about a year.”

The Glazers were not popular in Manchester for their ownership of the club and news that they were open to a sale was welcomed.

Al Thani is the favorite to own Manchester United and is believed to be a lifelong fan of the club aiming to see them succeed again.
