Girl, 16, dragged by hair for refusing marriage proposal from 47-year-old woman in Chattisgarh

A man has been arrested for allegedly attacking an underage girl with a sharp weapon and dragging her down the road in the Gudhiyari area of ​​Raipur in Chhattisgarh, police said on Sunday.

Sensation gripped the Gudhiyari area of ​​the Chhattisgarh capital late on Saturday night when a middle-aged man was seen dragging a 16-year-old girl, with multiple stab wounds, by her hair .

The incident came to light when a video of the incident went viral on a social media platform, prompting local police to launch an investigation into the incident.

During the preliminary investigation, the police identified the victim as well as the accused, following which an offense in this regard was registered with the Gudhiyari Police Station under the relevant section of the Indian Penal Code ( IPC) and the Weapons Act, a police officer said.

Police said the girl’s condition was considered critical and under constant monitoring by doctors.

According to the Chief Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Raipur, Prashant Agrawal, the victim worked in the shop of the accused identified as Omkar Tiwari alias Manoj (47 years old).

“When the incident came to light, the police immediately intervened and arrested the accused assailant,” the SSP said.

Sharing details of the incident, the SSP said that aggrieved by the victim’s proposal to quit his job and other issues, the defendant attacked the underage girl.

Meanwhile, police sources claimed that the accused allegedly offered to marry the underage girl, and that the victim’s mother refused.

Hurt by the refusal, the defendant attacked the minor with a sharp weapon and dragged her by the hair in a huge public stare.

Further investigation into the matter is underway.
