Nathan Jones swapped the Premier League for the Dorset Football League just a week after being sacked by Southampton.

And the 49-year-old stepped onto the pitch instead of leading on the touchline after making his debut for 12th-tier Cranborne FC.

Jones was dismissed from his role on February 12 after just 14 games in charge after winning just one Premier League game.

But he finally got a win to his name after helping his teammates beat Wareham Rangers Reserves 4-0.

Failing on impact at St Mary’s after leaving the club in 20th place, he made an instant impression just minutes after his first outing for the Cranes on Saturday.

Jones provided the assist for Cranborne’s first goal, with the club Tweeter“And that’s been a goal from the start!

Although unfortunately for the ex-Brighton, Southend and Yeovil star, he was forced to retire within ten minutes after sustaining a calf injury.

A third added: “Last Saturday managing Southampton, this Saturday playing for the mighty Cranes. Bright.”

This fan then said: “He is without irony the most hilarious manager to come into the Prem.”

It was said that the former Luton boss was a close friend of one of the squad members and was more than happy to help out at the club.

The win lifted Cranborne to fourth in the Division One standings.

Southampton didn’t miss Jones in their first game without him as they shocked Chelsea to win 1-0 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
