“Unlock the Power of Microsoft’s Bing Factbox with AI-Based Features”
(Reuters) – Microsoft Corp on Tuesday unveiled an improved version of its Bing search engine and Edge web browser, powered by an updated version of ChatGPT’s underlying technology.
The launch is limited to a “Desktop Limited Preview” available on Tuesday.
Users must go to this link and sign in to a Microsoft account to be placed on a waitlist to access Bing Search.
To skip the line, Microsoft says users can set Bing as their default search engine on their PC and scan a QR code to download the Bing Search app on your phone.
The viral success of OpenAI’s chatbot ChatGPT, which is on track to become the fastest growing app in history, has prompted big tech companies to rush new offerings.
For example, Microsoft has integrated OpenAI technology, in which Microsoft first invested in 2019, into Bing and Edge.
* During the limited preview period, users can only try out preset queries, a Microsoft spokesman told Reuters. Free-form queries will be available at a later date. * Bing’s AI can now scan search results and synthesize the results to answer complex queries in a chatbot window. What to substitute for eggs in a cake? Microsoft aims to give users the answer without scrolling through multiple results. * The revamped Edge browser features a sidebar with a range of AI features, while a different mode allows users to interact with Bing in the familiar ChatGPT-like chat interface. * For more complex searches, like planning a detailed itinerary or researching a TV to buy, users can refine their search by asking for more details via Bing chat. It will also show purchase links to the products and experiences that users are going to. * Bing can generate content such as emails—including their translations—social media posts, interview notes, and even a five-day itinerary for a trip to Hawaii or a quiz for a trivia night. It will also cite its sources so consumers can read more online. * Redesigned Edge sidebar adds Chat and Compose features. “Chat” allows users to summarize a specific web page or any document and search information about its content. Compose allows users to generate content for social media posts or emails based on some prompts.
