The Toronto Raptors are showing interest in several players ahead of Thursday’s close, but the team is reportedly uninterested in moving any of its All-Stars.
According to Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports, “a lot of skepticism remains among league staff that the Raptors will actually move All-Star forward Pascal Siakam this week, despite interest” from teams like the Brooklyn Nets.
Brooklyn already made a big move this week, signing point guard Kyrie Irving along with power forward Markieff Morris to the Dallas Mavericks for point guard Spencer Dinwiddie, small forward Dorian Finney-Smith, a 2029 first-round pick and a 2029 second-round pick Round 2027 and 2029 sent dials. There have been hints that the team isn’t done yet to improve their roster.
Early Monday, NBA insiders Mark Stein reported that the Nets “were also described to me as a team with an interest in Pascal Siakam,” but he noted that “signals entering the final week of the trading season reflected a reluctance by the Raptors to move him.”
Toronto is considered one of the most important teams to watch as the trade deadline approaches as the team has several players on team-friendly contracts that have attracted interest in the league. In addition to Siakam, all-star point guard Fred VanVleet and young wingers OG Anunoby and Gary Trent Jr. have been the subject of trade speculation.
Siakam leads the team averaging 24.7 points and 7.9 rebounds per game and adds 6.2 assists. However, the Raptors have been fickle, finishing bottom in the Atlantic Division with a 25-30 record.
Toronto has racked up back-to-back victories, including a surprise win over the talented Memphis Grizzlies. There’s a chance the Raptors will try to keep their core together in hopes of turning things around after the All-Star break.
Toronto hosts the San Antonio Spurs (14-39) on Wednesday.
