Christina Applegate says the SAG Awards will likely be her “last awards show as an actress” amid MS diagnosis

Christina Applegate looks at the upcoming Screen Actors Guild Awards with bittersweet emotion.

The dead to me The actress, who confirmed her MS diagnosis in 2021, revealed that the upcoming SAG Awards will most likely be her last as she continues to grapple with the effects of the disease.

“It’s probably my last awards show as an actor, so it’s a big deal,” said Applegate, 51 The Los Angeles Times in an interview published on Tuesday.

She added: “Right now I couldn’t imagine getting up at 5am and being on set for 12-14 hours; I don’t have that in me at the moment.”

Applegate is nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actress in a Comedy Series for her role as Jen Harding in the Netflix comedy. The nod marks her sixth SAG nomination.

Though acting is off her radar, Applegate has her next career move in mind: “I do a lot of voiceovers to make some money, to make sure my daughter gets fed and we’re home,” she said to the LA times.

Applegate’s comments come nearly two years after she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. At that time she was filming dead to me’s third and final season, which forced her to take a break from taping and undergo treatment.

Speak with The times, Hailing the “incredible” crew, the series showrunner and their co-stars, the actress said they are “Jen and Judy, united as one human being in the most perfect and beautiful way possible” — a nod to the close friendship between them her character and that of Linda Cardellini, who portrays Judy Hale.

“I was a wreck every day,” Applegate admitted, “but most of it happened alone in my trailer. But there were times when I broke down on set and I was like, ‘I can’t, we have to. To take a break, it takes me half an hour, and everyone was so loving that it was okay.

Applegate also revealed how difficult it was to watch season 3 after it was released on Netflix.

“I don’t like seeing myself fight,” she said. “Also, I gained 40 pounds due to inactivity and medication, and I didn’t look and feel like myself.” She watched alone, periodically pausing when it got too painful. “At some point I was able to distance myself from my own ego and realized what a beautiful piece of television it was. All the scenes that I didn’t act in were so much fun to see and experience for the first time.”

In November, during an interview with , Applegate considered filming the series diversityand revealed that it was “as hard as you might imagine”.

“It’s about figuring out what I’m capable of,” she said of her acting future. “I’m so new to this at the moment. It takes time to somehow figure this disease out and figure out what is causing symptoms. I’m just a newbie at all of this. So I’m trying to figure it out – and I’m also grieving for the person I was. I need to find a place that’s as loving as my set where they don’t think I’m a diva by saying, ‘Hey, I can only work 5 hours.’”

The actress, who received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on November 14, explained that she’s “looking for a place that allows me to [work five hours] when I’m not the star” and that the lead role in something in the future could be off the table.

“There’s no way I could do the job I just got back from. I mean that was it So hard,” she said, adding that her focus these days is on her family, particularly her 12-year-old daughter, Sadie Grace LeNoble, who she shares with husband Martyn LeNoble.

“I’m pretty sure it was, you know? But who knows – I’ll probably get really bored being in my room. I would like to develop stuff, I would like to produce stuff,” she added. “I have a lot of ideas in my head and I just have to implement them.”

The 29th Screen Actors Guild Awards will be held on Sunday 26th February.
