Saturday’s 4-2 victory at Aston Villa, combined with Manchester City’s draw at Nottingham Forest, has given the Gunners momentum as they chase a first league title in nearly two decades.
For Owen, there is still plenty to do from City and he believes Manchester United are also in a position to make an impact as the end of the season nears.
“It’s amazing, isn’t it? he said via the Mirror. “Because you see [City] sitting there with 52 points and that’s a pretty good total, but you just don’t get the sense that they’re absolutely purring and at the top of their game this season so far.
“And Arsenal, even though they’ve had some questionable results lately, they’re probably sitting there confident now. They gained a few more points from Manchester City – and probably had the toughest game.
“However, think back to a month or so and Manchester City would probably break your hand just two points behind now, because that gap was quite significant.
“Everyone knows there will be so many ups and downs and twists and turns – and nobody mentions Manchester United. Because if Manchester City are involved, and obviously Manchester United, if they win their game minus they are only three points behind City, so you can’t rule anything out at the moment.
“But it would have to be said that Arsenal are in charge.”
