The Montalbanais won the victory against the Luzechois. (Regional 1) This victory was very important for the Racingmen. After a very tight end to the match, the locals won.
In the final sprint of Pool 4 of Regional 1, the Racingmen are battling with Montech and Bressols for first place in the qualifying phase (the top four from each pool will play in the round of 16).
Yesterday afternoon’s meeting was therefore very important in this regard. For that, it was necessary to confirm the victory of the first leg on Lot soil. It’s done.
Montauban in the lead at the break
The start of the match was going to be particularly tight, the two teams tried the first penalties, and the Lotois missed two by William Thomas in the first quarter of an hour (6-3 for the locals). A first half territorially dominated by the visitors, the locals being heavily penalized for various game errors. At this rate, the Montalbanais reached the break in the lead by 15 to 9; Luzech can nourish regrets of a sterile domination.
Youssef Fallouk’s teammates were more dynamic at the start of the second half, but did not cross the line. Good intentions which did not last very long, since Luzech put his hands on the ball again and went in quick succession to score two tries before the hour mark, by Julien Vidus in overflow, then with the second line and captain Pierre Zarzonello, in force, flush with a group on the goal line.
Imperial Aymar de Bennetot
The players trained by Christophe Miatto and Cédric Garcia, up against the wall, must react. Scrum half Louis Irribaren finished a good job from the forwards and the locals came back to one point (26-25, 66th). The end of the meeting is epic, and forbidden to hearts, but the last word will go to Lord Aymar de Bennetot, author of a faultless foot, and great craftsman of victory. RC Montalbanais remains in second place in the general classification of the group.
And now. After the match against Luzech, there are only the last two days of the qualifying phase left to play in March. Before that, the Montalbanais of President Robert Lacaze will update their calendar by moving next Sunday to Bruguières to face the Entente Saint-Jory / Bruguières.
