“A Home Sweet Home Awaits: Adorable Golden Retriever Puppies Up for Adoption in BC (Pictures Inside)”
Nearly two dozen cute, healthy and absolutely ADORABLE Golden Retrievers have been inducted into BC’s SPCA and they are just the latest example of a post-COVID influx of dogs society is facing.
A breeder near Quesnel abducted 21 Golden Retrievers – 17 of them were puppies.
The SPCA said it appreciates the breeder’s efforts to ensure the dogs find loving homes and encourages people to turn to the society if they need help.
“But the increase in large-scale uptake is definitely straining our resources,” said Eileen Drever of the SPCA.

Young animals in particular need special care and attention, Drever added: “This not only puts pressure on the staff and resources at our facilities, but also on our network of foster families who help us care for these animals.”
One reason the BC SPCA is seeing a record number of multiple puppies at once is because people who set up breeding farms during the COVID-19 pandemic have been shut down.
“People have been very keen on getting pets during the COVID isolation and we have seen an increase in the number of people breeding animals during this time. Now that people are getting back to work and going back to their normal routines, the market has collapsed and we are receiving calls for help from breeders who are overwhelmed with the number of animals in their care,” explained Drever.

In addition, the senior officer said the number of complaints the BC SPCA Helpline receives about animal neglect from overworked breeders has increased.
The Golden Retrievers that the SPCA recently inducted have been transported to various SPCA locations. There they await medical clearance before being put up for adoption.
“We know there are so many dogs out there that need to come in. Our goal is to find space for these animals as quickly as possible so that we can take care of them and get them on their way to their new lives. We really need the public’s help to make this happen,” Drever said.
