On February 11, 1983, a mudslide swept during the village of Lions Bay, BC, killing two and destroying a number of houses.
“This whole village was literally cut in half,” stated Trudi Luethy of the Lions Bay Historic Public of the mudslide that tumbled down Alberta Creek.
“Two young people [found] dead and so many people have lost their homes,” stated Luethy.
“It was just a horrible, horrible night.”
Luethy remembers torrential rains that evening within the village, 10 kilometers north of West Vancouver, turning the most often tranquility creek right into a torrent of particles.
“It seemed like part of the mountainside had come loose and just kept falling down Alberta Creek,” she stated.
