Police in the suburb of Round Lake Beach said two people, including an 8-year-old child, were injured after being hit by gunfire on Saturday night.
Police say officers were called to the 500 block of Meadow Green Lane around 8.39pm to a report of gunshots.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered that a 26-year-old man and an 8-year-old man had both been shot at the scene.
They were both taken to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
An investigation is still ongoing into the shooting and no suspects are currently in custody.
