1 dead and 10 injured in overnight shootings in Memphis 1

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – One person was killed and 10 were injured early Sunday after a pair of shootings in Tennessee that police say are linked, according to a Memphis Police Department news release posted on Twitter.

The shooting took place in the Whitehaven neighborhood of Memphis, about 10 miles south of downtown and near Memphis International Airport. Both shootings took place on East Shelby Drive, a commercial corridor of restaurants, grocery stores, churches and doctors’ offices surrounded by residential streets.

Police responded to the first scene at the Memphis nightclub, the Live Lounge, at 12:43 a.m., the statement said. Two victims were taken to hospital in critical condition. Five other less seriously injured people traveled to area hospitals in private vehicles.

While police were at the scene, they were notified of a second shooting about a mile away. At the scene, a man was pronounced dead and three other victims were taken to hospital in critical condition, police said.

Police do not know what led to the shooting or whether the shooter knew the victims. They don’t have a solid description of the shooter(s) yet. Anyone with information is asked to call 901-528-CASH with guidance.
