Could it be that Volkswagen is preparing an even more powerful Golf R for us? Everything suggests that it is, as youtubeur Volkswizard asserts.

A few weeks ago, Volkswagen officially lifted the veil on the most radical version of its Golf, decked out with an R badge much appreciated by fans of the brand. Expected on a firm footing after having been seen several times in freedom, sometimes without any camouflage, the sporty compact has the heavy task of competing with the Audi S3 and other Mercedes-AMG A35 . But could it be that an even more powerful version is planned by the Wolfsburg firm? This is the question asked by the youtubeur Volkswizard , who wonders about the performance of the car, claiming some 320 horsepower under its hood. Indeed, according to an internal document that leaked last year, well before its revelation, the sportswoman should have developed no less than 330 equines. Now, the question arises as to the cause of this drop in power on the final version. Are there any plans for another, even more radical version to be planned a little later? In any case, this is what the videographer, passionate about the German brand and the models of the group, assumes.

A more than founded hypothesis, since it is based on the user manual for the new Volkswagen Golf R , which he was able to obtain during the test of the latter. In his video, this German lover underlines in fact that the document gives the characteristics of two engines for the sports car, while only one is currently marketed, namely the 2.0-liter TSI 320 horsepower . However, the manual does speak of a second TSI block, with a power of 245 kW, or about 330 equines. Astonishing, whereas the brand has never spoken of this version, which is not sold in any other market. It's simple, it just doesn't exist. But is it final? Who knows, maybe we'll have to expect to see an even more powerful version of the Volkswagen Golf R in the months or years to come. Where then the CAFE standard and the heavy fine that goes with it will have finally been right at the last moment of this variant? Hope to have answers quickly ...

Beautiful cavalry

If the idea of an even more powerful version is obviously very attractive, the current Volkswagen Golf R nevertheless remains very promising too, with its 420 Nm of torque sent to all four wheels via a seven-speed DSG gearbox . As a reminder, the German compact is then able to perform the exercise from 0 to 100 km / h in just 4.7 seconds, for a maximum speed electronically restricted to 250 km / h. Note that it is also possible to opt for an R Performance pack, allowing the latter to go up to 270 km / h, but also to take advantage of Special and Drift modes . The first, which is added to the basic configurations, optimizes the settings for use on the Nürburgring, while the second modifies the torque management to make the car more playful. A new torque vectoring system also makes its appearance, improving traction in curves, while the DCC chassis is standard.

Already available to order, the new Volkswagen Golf R is priced from € 50,260, or € 7,000 more than the previous generation. A difference which can be explained by a larger standard equipment, including among others the Matrix LED lights, the reversing camera or the 10-inch touch screen. It will nevertheless be necessary to extend the check to take advantage of the Akrapovic exhaust or the R Performance pack, while the penalty is between € 4,818 and € 8,671 depending on the options chosen.
