Warsaw Community High School

Harrison Mevis grew up in Warsaw, Indiana, and played football at Warsaw Community High School from 2017 to 2019. He came out of high school as an Under Armour All-American. Recruiting services did not agree on how good he was: the Missouri athletics department lists him as a three-star kicking prospect, while the Kohl's kicking camp ranked him a five-star and the No. 2 kicker in his class.

The home-state schools did not chase him. CBS Sports reported that Indiana had no scholarship need at kicker and Indiana State made no offer. Army did offer, but Mevis wanted a Power Five program and picked Missouri. Kicking ran in the family: his older brother Andrew kicked at Fordham and Iowa State. His parents are Tina and Tracy Mevis.

At 5 feet 11 and 243 pounds, he never looked like the usual college kicker, and the build earned him a nickname that stuck through his Missouri years: "The Thiccer Kicker."

Four Seasons at Missouri

Mevis was a freshman All-American in 2020 and a first-team All-American in 2021. Over four seasons at Missouri he made 86 of 103 field goal attempts and scored 405 points, which made him Missouri's career scoring leader. He passed the old mark of 362, held by Jeff Wolfert, on November 4, 2023, in a road game at No. 1 Georgia. He also holds the school record for field goals of 50 yards or longer.

His senior year started badly. He had made 1 of 3 field goal tries when Missouri played No. 15 Kansas State on September 16, 2023.

The 61-Yard Kick Against Kansas State

With the score tied at 27 and time running out, Missouri lined up for a 56-yard attempt. A delay of game penalty moved the ball back five yards. Mevis made the 61-yarder as time expired, and Missouri won 30-27.

The kick set a Southeastern Conference record. The previous long of 60 yards had been shared by three kickers: Fuad Reveiz in 1982 and Kevin Butler and Chris Perkins in 1984. CBS Sports wrote the game up as the afternoon both Mevis and quarterback Brady Cook came out of their slumps. The coaches named Mevis second-team All-SEC at the end of that season.

Carolina, Birmingham and the Jets

No team drafted him. The Carolina Panthers signed Mevis as an undrafted free agent in May 2024 and waived him that August, before the season began.

He spent the spring of 2025 with the Birmingham Stallions of the United Football League, where he made 20 of 21 field goals, with a long of 56 yards. That season got him a second NFL chance. The New York Jets signed him on June 18, 2025, and released veteran kicker Anders Carlson to make room. The Jets cut Mevis before the regular season.

A Tryout Call Before the 49ers Game

By the middle of the 2025 season the Los Angeles Rams had a kicking problem. Mevis told the team's website that he was on his way to practice kicking on his own when his agent called with a tryout offer. He had not been on an NFL roster since the Jets let him go. The Rams brought him in ahead of their Week 10 game against the San Francisco 49ers, he won the job by the end of that week, and the team signed him on November 5, 2025, as the replacement for Joshua Karty.

The results came quickly. In nine regular season games he made 12 of 13 field goals and all 39 extra points. In the playoffs he made all six of his field goal tries, including the 42-yard winner against the Chicago Bears in the divisional round.

He described his approach in a January 2026 interview with the Rams: "It's a lot like golf and you kinda keep it simple and you'll make kicks. Don't overcomplicate it." The goal, he said, was to stay "ready to make the next kick, whenever that comes."

On March 2, 2026, the Rams tendered Mevis as an exclusive rights free agent, a move that kept him from negotiating with other teams and amounted to a one-year deal for the 2026 season. The team listed his age as 23 at the time.

Monday Night Against the Bills

The 2026 season did not go the same way. Through five games Mevis made all 14 of his extra points but only 5 of 9 field goals. All four misses came from beyond 40 yards, including misses against the New York Giants in Week 2 and the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 4.

On Monday night, October 12, 2026, the Rams played the Buffalo Bills at SoFi Stadium. Mevis missed a 50-yarder in the first quarter. With the game in overtime, his 48-yard attempt to win it was blocked. Bills kicker Tyler Bass then made a 45-yarder, and Buffalo won 37-34. The loss left the Rams at 2-3.

After the game, head coach Sean McVay said the field goal and extra point unit was "not even close to good enough" and that "it cost us the game." The next day the Rams waived Mevis and signed Blake Grupe, who had been on the Jets practice squad. McVay softened his postgame remarks in a video call with reporters: "Appreciate (Mevis's) contributions. I thought he was a rock for us last year when we obviously struggled in that area. But ultimately we need better production, and that's what we're hoping to get out of from Blake."

The release explains the sudden interest in his name. Mevis is a free agent again, with a record that cuts both ways: a perfect playoff run last season and four long misses in five games this fall. No contract figures for him have been published in the sources reviewed for this article, so no net worth estimate is given here.
