A Birthright Trip and a Stop at Yad Vashem
Ethan Klein and Hila Klein met in 2007. He was an American on a Birthright trip to Israel, and she was an Israeli soldier on leave. According to The Forward, they first met at Yad Vashem during that trip.
Ethan later moved to Israel, and the two began making videos there together. The Forward reports that both are American-Israeli dual citizens and that they later moved to the United States. They married in 2012, according to Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, and E! News, and they have three children.
Hila told The Harvard Crimson in 2023 that she studied art in Israel, where she is originally from. "When I went to art school," she said, the course covered "painting, sculpture, screen printing, video art, photography."
The h3h3Productions Channel, Opened in April 2011
The YouTube channel h3h3Productions joined the platform on April 29, 2011. Its description reads "Ethan Klein and Hila Klein make comedy videos together." The name is built from the two of them: the H stands for Hila, and the 3 is a reversed E for Ethan, The Forward explains. TheWrap describes the couple as "making online content together since 2011, first through their H3H3 Productions YouTube channel."
As of October 24, 2026, the channel's YouTube page listed 5.44 million subscribers, 1,386,472,387 views, and 279 videos.
Hosseinzadeh v. Klein in the Southern District of New York
The case that made the channel known outside YouTube began in 2016, when Hosseinzadeh sued the Kleins over a reaction video they had made about one of his videos. The suit was a copyright case that also included a defamation claim.
On August 23, 2017, Judge Katherine B. Forrest of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York granted summary judgment to the Kleins, TechCrunch reported. She found that their video was fair use: it "constitutes critical commentary of the Hoss video" and was "decidedly not a market substitute" for the original. The defamation claim also failed, because the statements in question were either opinion or substantially true.
Forrest limited the reach of her decision. The court was "not ruling here that all 'reaction videos' constitute fair use," she wrote.
The Kleins did not pay for the defense alone. A GoFundMe started by the YouTuber Philip DeFranco raised more than $170,000 for their legal costs. Ethan called the outcome a "huge victory for fair use on YouTube." Whether the case was appealed, and what the defense cost in the end, is not established in the reporting reviewed for this article.
The H3 Podcast and Its Friday Episodes
The H3 Podcast launched in 2016, according to Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, TheWrap, and E! News. A 2021 WWD profile of Hila gives the year as 2017. Its YouTube channel had about 2.5 million subscribers as of October 23, 2026, per Variety and The Hollywood Reporter (TheWrap put it at 2.51 million).
The Hollywood Reporter counts five Streamy Award nominations for best podcast. Guests over the years have included Post Malone, MrBeast, and Jack Black.
Hila co-hosts the Friday episodes. She described the split in her week to The Harvard Crimson: Teddy Fresh is "me going to work," and the Friday podcast is "me going to a cocktail party."
Frenemies and Leftovers
Ethan co-hosted two other podcasts. Frenemies, which he co-hosted with Trisha Paytas, launched in 2020 and ended the following year after a fallout, according to E! News and The Hollywood Reporter. Paytas is married to Hila's brother, Moses Hacmon. Speaking on the H3 Podcast in September 2024 about the rift, Hila said, "It's done."
Leftovers, a podcast Ethan started in 2021 with the streamer Hasan Piker, ended after October 7, 2023, and the two hosts fell into a public feud, The Forward reports. The same outlet says the Kleins were harassed in the period after October 7.
Teddy Fresh and Teddy Glow
The podcast and a clothing line started close together. "When we launched our podcast, we also decided to launch a clothing line," Hila told The Harvard Crimson, which describes her as the "creator and CEO of Teddy Fresh." According to WWD, the streetwear brand released its first collection in October 2017, and its name comes from a name the family uses for one another.
Hila also runs a makeup brand, Teddy Glow, according to The Hollywood Reporter and E! News. Both brands came up again in October 2026, when Ethan named them in his statement about removing his stakes.
October 2026: Hila Klein's Statement and the Podcast Hiatus
On October 22, 2026, Hila Klein posted a statement on Instagram saying that Ethan had had an affair lasting "over 6 months" and that she was navigating "separation, co-parenting," Variety and Rolling Stone reported. "The person I loved and trusted for 20 years evaporated overnight," she wrote, as quoted by Variety. "He was my safe place, my partner in marriage, parenting, and business." Her statement says he admitted the affair to her. That is her account.
Ethan has not publicly acknowledged the accusation, according to TheWrap, and Rolling Stone reports that he did not comment on it. He did address the business. In an Instagram Story, he said he was "working with Hila to urgently remove my ownership and financial stakes in any podcasts, Teddy Fresh, Teddy Glow or any joint venture that I would profit from," Variety and Rolling Stone reported.
The H3 Podcast crew said they would "not continue working with Ethan involved or profiting in any way." The podcast is now on "indefinite hiatus." TheWrap reports that the hiatus was announced on Ethan's Instagram Story with the line "Thank you so much for your patience."
The channel still carries a name made from both of their initials. By Ethan's own statement, his ownership in the podcasts and in Hila's brands is being removed.
