Houston Texans left tackle Laremy Tunsil has agreed to a three-year, $75 million extension, making him the NFL’s highest-paid offensive lineman. This deal includes a $30 million signing bonus, $50 million fully guaranteed, and a total guarantee of $60 million. Tunsil previously held the title of highest-paid offensive tackle when he signed a three-year, $66 million deal in 2020. The extension comes on the same day that the Texans agreed to trade wide receiver Brandin Cooks to the Dallas Cowboys for a pair of draft picks. Tunsil’s performance last season was among the NFL’s best, finishing third among left tackles in All-Pro voting. He anchored an offensive line that allowed just 38 sacks, the 14th fewest in the league. With the Texans likely to select a rookie quarterback with the No. 2 overall pick in April’s draft, extending Tunsil makes sense as he will protect the new quarterback’s blind side.
Houston Texans Left Tackle Laremy Tunsil Becomes NFL’s Highest-Paid Offensive Lineman
According to sources, Houston Texans left tackle Laremy Tunsil has agreed to a three-year, $75 million extension, making him the highest-paid offensive lineman in the NFL. The deal comes with a $30 million signing bonus, $50 million fully guaranteed, and a total guarantee of $60 million.
Tunsil, who has been with the team for two years, previously held the title of highest-paid offensive tackle when he signed a three-year, $66 million deal in 2020. The extension was Tunsil’s goal, as he expressed a desire to “reset the market” in December.
Tunsil’s production last season was among the NFL’s best, finishing third among left tackles in All-Pro voting, behind New York Giants’ Andrew Thomas and Trent Williams of the San Francisco 49ers. He anchored an offensive line that allowed just 38 sacks, the 14th fewest in the league. His pass block win rate of 91.9% was 17th among offensive tackles, allowing only one sack (tied for second-fewest) and 17 pressures (sixth-fewest).
With the Texans likely to select a rookie quarterback with the No. 2 overall pick in April’s draft, extending Tunsil makes sense as he will protect the new quarterback’s blind side.
