Penn State men’s gymnastics concluded their regular season with a victory over William & Mary, with a score of 396.400-382.750. The team’s three event wins in the pommel horse, rings, and high bar helped secure their fourth win of the season. Ian Raubal had an outstanding performance in the all-around, earning first place and taking home event titles in rings, parallel bars, and high bar. Penn State’s next move is to compete in the Big Ten Championships, which will air on the Big Ten Network on March 31 and April 1.
Penn State Men’s Gymnastics Wins Against William & Mary
Penn State men’s gymnastics ended its regular season with a victory over William & Mary, scoring 396.400-382.750. The Nittany Lions secured their fourth win of the season with a 4-2, 1-2 Big Ten record. They achieved three event wins on the pommel horse, rings, and high bar, while William & Mary won the other three on floor, vault, and parallel bars.
Coach Randy Jepson acknowledged that it was not the ideal meet they had hoped for but pointed out that Ethan Dick did an excellent job on the high bar, and Ian Raubal performed exceptionally well in the all-around. Jepson highlighted that the team will focus on getting as healthy as possible for the Big Ten Championships in two weeks.
Penn State started slowly on the floor, trailing 63.300-61.350. They finished strong on the pommel horse, taking a five-point event lead over William & Mary and a three-point overall lead. Penn State secured the top three scores on rings, winning the event by nearly eight points at 68.550-61.050, which extended their overall lead to 196.850-186.450.
Although William & Mary won the vault title with a 69.050-68.900 score, Penn State’s Raubal won the parallel bars event title, keeping the overall lead with the Nittany Lions. Raubal and Michael Artlip also tied for first place on high bar to seal the Nittany Lions’ victory.
Raubal clinched his second all-around first place finish this season, scoring 80.700. He earned event titles on rings (14.200), parallel bars (13.650), and tied for first on high bar (14.00) with a career-best score. Dick finished second in the all-around with a score of 78.400, taking second on vault with a 14.100 and earning third place on high bar with his personal best score of 13.950.
Fleck finished fourth in the all-around with a score of 75.500, setting a high score of 13.350 on high bar and matching his season best on vault with a 13.950. Warren had an excellent performance this season with two second-place titles on rings (14.150) and a career-best score (13.400) on parallel bars.
Karnes competed in only two events but won his second consecutive event title on pommel horse with a score of 13.900.
The Nittany Lions will next travel to Columbus, Ohio, for the Big Ten Championships from March 31 to April 1. The event will air on the Big Ten Network at 8 p.m. both nights.
