Penn State’s Jordan Morales gave an impressive performance on the mound, allowing no runs on three hits in three innings. Jay Harry was the star player, with two hits, three RBIs and a run, helping Penn State secure a strong lead early on. Georgetown struggled to keep up with Penn State’s strong offensive play, recording just eight hits in total. Penn State will now face Binghamton on March 21st, followed by their opening Big Ten play against Michigan on March 24-26.
Penn State Baseball Team Dominates Georgetown in Weekend Home Series
On Sunday afternoon, the Penn State baseball team clinched a 7-2 win against Georgetown at the Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, closing out their weekend home series. The win marked their 11th victory in 16 games played so far this season.
Jordan Morales made his second start of the season, taking the mound for the Nittany Lions and delivering an impressive performance in the first three innings of the game. Morales recorded two strikeouts and gave up no runs on three hits. Steven Miller followed with three innings of solid pitching of his own, allowing one run (unearned) on three hits while striking out three. Jaden Henline closed the game for the Nittany Lions, conceding just one run over three innings and striking out five to earn the save.
The Penn State offense was on fire, registering nine hits, including four doubles, and drawing eight walks while striking out just six times. Jay Harry was the standout performer with two hits, including a double, three RBI and a run. Ben Kailher contributed two hits, with a double, two runs and an RBI, while Bobby Marsh collected two hits, including a double. Tayven Kelley scored two runs, and Thomas Bramley had an RBI single and scored a run.
Penn State secured an early lead, scoring four runs in the second inning. After two-out walks by Anthony Steele and Kelley, Kailher drove a single to left to bring Steele home. Bramley then hit a single to right, bringing Kelley home. After Bramley moved up to second on a wild pitch, Harry hit a double to the corner in right, bringing in Kailher and Bramley. The Nittany Lions led 4-0 after two innings.
Penn State added another run in the fourth inning. Kelley worked a leadoff, four-pitch walk, then moved up to second on a sac bunt and to third on a groundout. Harry stepped up and singled to left, driving in Kelley and extending Penn State’s lead to 5-0.
Georgetown struggled to keep up with Penn State’s strong performance. Jake Bloss started for the Hoyas, allowing five runs and six hits in 3.2 innings. Bloss struck out one batter and walked four. Jordan Yoder, Everett Catlett and Garett Keough combined to hold the Nittany Lions scoreless through 3.1 combined innings. Tyler Mead took the mound in the eighth inning, giving up two runs (one earned) on one hit.
Kyle Hannon’s outstanding defensive plays at second base in the first two innings of play kept the Hoyas scoreless, with a sliding stop on a grounder in the top of the first inning and a quick glove flip to first base in the top of the second. Billy Gerlott also made a sliding catch in right field in the eighth.
Georgetown recorded eight hits, with Jake Hyde registering an RBI double and Owen Carapellotti and Christian Ficca each contributing two hits.
Overall, Penn State’s solid pitching, strong offensive play, and impressive defensive work helped the team secure a resounding win against Georgetown in their weekend home series.
Penn State Baseball Team Secures a Dominant Win Against Georgetown
Georgetown struggled to keep up with the Penn State baseball team in their recent game, which ended in a 7-2 victory for the Nittany Lions. In the sixth inning, Michael Eze dropped a bunt down the first base line for a single, and two batters later, Austin Kretzschmar singled to left as Eze moved up to third. A ground ball by Angelo D’Acunto was misplayed at third, allowing Eze to score and cut the Hoyas’ deficit to 5-1.
In the eighth inning, Penn State scored two more runs, with Jay Harry stealing second before a wild pitch allowed Ben Kailher to score and Harry to reach third. A grounder by Johnny Piacentino resulted in an error, which allowed Harry to cross the plate, extending Penn State’s lead to 7-1.
Georgetown added a run in the ninth inning, with Jordan Kahn scoring on a fly ball by Jake Hyde. However, this wasn’t enough to close the gap, and Penn State won the game by a score of 7-2.
The Nittany Lions will face Binghamton on Tuesday, March 21st, at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, where it’s Dollar Dog Night with $1 hot dogs. Penn State will also be opening Big Ten play against Michigan next weekend, March 24-26.
