Wisconsin sports fans had their eyes on Marquette’s game, but three other teams won big. The Wisconsin women’s hockey team won their seventh NCAA tournament championship, surpassing Minnesota for most national championships in NCAA Women’s Hockey history. The Badgers claimed a 75-71 victory over Liberty in the NIT, with Chucky Hepburn leading the way with 27 points. Max Klesmit secured the win with a layup with 42 seconds left. In the College Basketball Invitational, Milwaukee Panthers’ BJ Freeman scored a record 43 points, leading the team to an 87-83 overtime victory over Stenson, marking the Panthers’ first postseason win since the 2006 NCAA Tournament. Wisconsin has plenty to celebrate in the sports world.

Wisconsin Sports Teams Achieve Success Despite Marquette Loss

While many Wisconsin sports enthusiasts had their eyes glued to the Marquette Golden Eagles’ round of 32 matchup last Sunday, three other teams accomplished significant feats.

Wisconsin Women’s Hockey Wins 7th National Title

The Wisconsin women’s hockey team bagged their seventh NCAA tournament championship by defeating Ohio State 1-0 last Sunday at AMSOIL Arena. Badger’s Kirsten Simms scored the sole goal, and they finish the season with a 29-10-3 record. With this win, Wisconsin now holds the record for the most national championships in NCAA Women’s Hockey history, surpassing Minnesota.

Badgers Claim Victory Over Liberty 75-71 in the NIT

In the NIT, Chucky Hepburn led the Badgers with 27 points, and Max Klesmit sealed the deal with a layup with 42 seconds left, securing the 75-71 win against Liberty last Sunday. Tyler Wahl added 16 points to the Badgers’ tally and also had six rebounds. Steven Crowl scored 14 points and made seven of nine field goals. The Badgers will compete against Oregon on Tuesday at 8 pm.

Milwaukee Panthers Survive Overtime to Beat Stenson

BJ Freeman, a guard for the Milwaukee Panthers, scored a College Basketball Invitational record 43 points, leading the team to victory against Stenson 87-83 in overtime. This victory marks the Panthers’ first postseason win since the 2006 NCAA Tournament.

Despite the Marquette loss, the other three teams’ outstanding achievements prove that Wisconsin has plenty to celebrate in the sports world.
