UFC President Dana White has confirmed that Colby Covington will be the next in line for the welterweight title shot after Leon Edwards’ win at UFC 286. White confirmed the news to the media outlets including Cageside Press at the O2 Arena in London.

Covington, who weighed in as a backup for Saturday’s main event, will fight Edwards at a future date that is yet to be determined. He has not completed since a March 2022 win against Jorge Masvidal.

White revealed that Covington deserved the fight and is the second or third best guy in the world. He further stated that Covington will face Edwards for the title next, even if Jorge Masvidal does something spectacular against Gilbert Burns in Miami next month.

White also revealed that Shavkat Rakhmonov versus Belal Muhammad was in the works, and they were working on it. This news may disappoint Muhammad’s fans as many saw him as deserving of the next title shot. However, it seems he’s at least one win away from getting it.
