It was a historic win for the Badgers, as it was the first time in four tries that they defeated the Gophers in an NCAA semifinal. Wisconsin improved to 5-4 all-time against the Gophers (30-6-3) in the NCAA Tournament.

The Badgers rallied with two goals in 53 seconds to take the lead.
In the final seconds of the third period, the Badgers absorbed a kick in the gut with a tying goal from Madeline Wethington, but they recovered from that setback in overtime. The Badgers had to kill an interference penalty to Vivian Jungels and later got point-blank saves by Kronish on Taylor Heise, Savannah Norcross, and Madison Kaiser to maintain the lead.
