Recently, they signed free-agent safety Chauncey “C.J.” Gardner-Johnson to a one-year deal worth up to $8 million. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, this deal was made official on Sunday night.

Gardner-Johnson is a great addition to the Lions, as he was tied for the NFL lead in interceptions in 2022 with six, despite only playing 12 regular-season games. He was forced to sit out for the rest of the season after suffering a lacerated kidney and returned to play in the Eagles’ three postseason games, including the Super Bowl.

The 25-year-old defensive back previously played for the New Orleans Saints for three seasons before joining the Eagles in 2022. He played a vital role in the NFC champion squad, offering versatility as a safety and the nickel/slot corner.

With the addition of Gardner-Johnson, the Lions have continued to build an impressive team. Earlier, they signed cornerbacks Cameron Sutton and Emmanuel Moseley, running back David Montgomery, and guard Graham Glasnow.
