Boston Amateur Basketball Club Kicks off 46th Season with Impressive Showcase
The Boston Amateur Basketball Club (BABC) returned to action for its 46th season in a high-energy showcase held at the Hale Family YMCA in Quincy. The event featured three exciting games, including two matchups against MIAA All-Seniors and underclassmen, and an NJCAA Region 21 All-Stars game.
The first game saw the BABC 11th graders dominate their opponents, with a 100-79 victory despite only having six players available. BABC jumped to a 20-8 lead and never trailed. The NJCAA team attempted a comeback, but BABC held on to their lead with great execution and a couple of big shots. Duane Thompson had 22 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists for BABC, while Oswin Erhunmwunse and Ben Ahmed both recorded double-doubles.
In the second game, the BABC 10th graders faced off against MIAA underclassmen. Rodrigo Dos Santos kept things close in the first half with 13 points, but the underclassmen ran out of steam and lost 82-59. Hunter Matteson showcased his skills in the paint, while Tyler Catoggio and Peter Gellene were excellent off the bench for Bridgewater-Raynham.
Bridgewater-Raynham head coach Doug Alves saw the game as a great opportunity for his players to measure themselves against college-level talent. BABC head coach Leo Papile was pleased with his team’s execution and effort and remained optimistic about the future of his young players. The kickoff showcase was a great success and demonstrated the talent and skills of the BABC players, promising a thrilling season ahead.
BABC Ends Showcase on a High Note
The Boston Amateur Basketball Club (BABC) ended their showcase event with a nail-biting win against the MIAA All-Seniors. Despite a strong push from the All-Seniors in the final minutes, BABC held on for a 64-56 victory.
BABC took control of the game in the first half, going on a 13-0 run led by Anthony Daley’s sharpshooting. The BABC size and up-tempo offense proved too much for the All-Seniors, who failed to score a field goal in the final five-plus minutes of the half. BABC’s Duane Thompson also played a crucial role in the victory with 16 points.
The All-Seniors fought back in the second half, led by point guards Isiah Michel and Marius Canery. They managed to cut the lead to four with just over a minute left, but ultimately ran out of time.
Despite the close call, BABC head coach Leo Papile praised his team’s endurance, stating that they were “just hanging on with fumes.” He also noted that the team’s decision to play the college players first was a strategic move to prepare for the physicality of the All-Seniors.
Seniors’ head coach Matt Vincenzi acknowledged that his team was adjusting to BABC’s size and rotations, but ultimately gave credit to his players’ competitive nature.
The showcase was a great success for BABC, who demonstrated their talent and skill in a series of exciting games. The team’s future looks promising as they continue to train and prepare for the upcoming season.
